Cameras

18 February 2014

Horbury

4.35 p.m.; a flock of fifty jackdaws wheels over my mum's garden. When we stay at Bownes on Windermere, we see large flocks wheeling around at sunset over similar Victorian gardens with plenty of mature trees including evergreens.

Bridge and Tough

FujiFilm FinePix S6800 30x zoom bridge camera
Olympus µ Tough 3000 3.6x zoom waterproof to 10ft, 3m.

I've used both these cameras a lot when collecting material for this sketchbook. The little Olympus Tough slots into a pocket in my art bag and goes everywhere with me but the FujiFilm bridge camera is easier to use as it has a quicker start-up and it is more responsive when you press the shutter button. There's always a slight delay with the Tough. The auto-focus seems more reliable too on the FujiFilm, perhaps because the screen is a bit clearer, perhaps because the half-press required to set the focus is easier to achieve with its more responsive shutter button.

But it's not as tough and on several occasions I've jammed the auto-zoom while removing the lens cap.
