pond skaterpond skaterFloating vegetation stifled the pond last year. Now that I've raked it out, pond skaters have returned.

The pond skater, or water strider, Gerris, is a predatory bug armed (as is usual with bugs) with piercing mouthparts. It glides over the water surface on the lookout for insect prey.
