CHRISTMAS WOULDN’T be Christmas for me without my annual visit to church to attend midnight mass, but it makes Christmas Eve seem rather long as I wait until it’s time to go. As we sit chatting, it’s an opportunity to draw my left hand yet again.

In my first drawings I’ve used hatching - repeated lines to indicate tone - and bracelet shading or contour shading - lines to indicate the shape - so in my drawing (bottom left) I had a change and went for pure outline instead.

But my natural style (bottom right) isn’t so rigidly linear, though it’s good to go for a clearer style occasionally.
