I USED A DIP PEN with a Telephone Pen nib. I’m lucky to have a whole box of these as my dad brought them home from his office in the 1960s when they were clearing out old stock. This C&A shirt is draped over the arm of an office chair of similar vintage to the nibs.

I started the with the darkest tones in Payne’s grey watercolour, then added mid tones and finally went over the whole thing with a varied mixture of raw umber, French ultramarine and touches of permanent rose and Payne’s grey depending on whether the grey seemed to be going towards warm or cool on particular folds of the shirt.
