hummingbird

1st January, Doncaster, South Yorkshire

I saw what I considered to be a hummingbird today in a Bawtry back garden near Doncaster, darting around and dipping into the flowers. After a bit of research it appears to be a fancy moth. Bit of a disappointment because my uncle thought I was making it up and know it appears that he is right!! Was a beautiful sight anyway.

16th July, West Hull, East Yorkshire

I wanted to let you know that one of these beautiful and distinctive moths visited our garden today. It collected nectar using its infamously long proboscis from some pale pink geraniums. M.P.

North America

10th June, North Carolina

I live in North Carolina and seen a hawkmoth for the first time today! It was feeding from my butterfly bushes.
I had heard about, but never seen a bumblebee hummingbird, so at first I assumed that was what this was. I sat down at my pc and did some checking to discover what this was.

I thought you would be interested to know that they have been seen here, as I read they are mostly seen in the British Isles. They certainly are a beautiful little creature. S.S.
